Pharma Cooler, smart collaboration of active and passive cooling systems


Pharma Cooling has developed a unique next generation hybrid cooling technology, a smart collaboration of a robust active cooling system with a passive cooling system.

Active cooling

The active cooling system within the Pharma Cooler is based on a traditional Peltier-element. To significantly increase the efficacy of a traditional Peltier-element and to make it robust so that it can also be used in mobile units, the Peltier-element is embedded in a housing with separated liquid flows and flexible connections.

Our technology transfers the cold and warm energy in an optimal way, which results in a maximum performance and minimum a loss of energy. Because Peltier-elements produce cold and warm energy, the energy is transferred with the use of water as circulating fluid to ensure a limited heat conduction to the cold site of the Peltier-element. This results in a significant temperature difference and improvement of cooling performances compared to other thermoelectric cooling systems.

Where a conventional Peltier-elemet has a low
efficacy and performance level because of the heat being conducted trough the material to the cold side of the Peltier- element, our technique has a maximum cooling performance thanks to the elemimination of this disadvantage.

Passive cooling

The passive cooling within the Pharma Cooler is based on PCM (Phase Change Material), a substance with a high heat of fusion which, melting and solidifying at a certain temperature, is capable of storing and releasing large amounts of energy. Heat is absorbed or released when the material changes from solid to liquid and vice versa.

How does it work?

The active cooling system keeps the medication in the cool chamber at the exact temperature range and at the same time charges the passive cooling system.

As long as the Pharma Cooler is connected to a power source, the temperature will be maintained permanently.

When the passive cooling system is fully charged and the Pharma Cooler is disconnected from a power source, it can keep the medication for up to 48 hours within the recommended temperature range, even under extreme circumstances like a high ambient temperature.
